SHARAF
Visual artist, based in Brighton, UK.
I view making art as a constant state of play: with thoughts, concepts, visual cues. That’s why I work across several mediums.
The posters are the bulk of the work. Each one is an attempt to organise a thought or feeling into something coherent, a snapshot of what I was thinking at the time. Some carry short write-ups. These don’t describe the poster; they’re part of the rumination it’s about. The posters say “here’s what I think.”
The abstract drawings are an exploration of my mind through different forms of meditation. Sometimes I let my mind wander into imagination, memory, daydreams. Sometimes I’m focusing on my breath or trying to hold clean strokes. I read them differently almost every time I look at them. The drawings say “tell me what you think.”
The collages, made from the two, are the conversation.
Most of my work is numbered. The numbering lets me see the difference between number 1 and number 50, and whether the ideas and feelings I started with still hold true 50 pieces down the line.
